[Wswss] FT-817 for Satellite, WeakSig work

Well, one more question - - -
my impression is that the FT-817 would do about as well as a dual-band 
HT for satellite work (eg dedicate a bank of 10 or so memories and 
program them as psuedo tracking doppler freq...), would add the CW/SSB 
capability, but overall not be a very satisfactory weak signal and 
satellite radio...

am I off target, have I missed something ?   would an 817 be a 
reasonable starter rig for V/UHF weak sig and satellite work ?
