[WRL] Globe Scout 65 PTT

I recently acquired a Globe Scout 65A with a serial
number above 5000, which I'm refurbishing for use in a
"vintage" Field Day 2006 setup. When I opened the rig
upon receipt, I encountered something different about
it, but something I had seen years before. I recall
it well, because I worked on the rig a time or two.

This Scout has been modified for PTT.

The mod consists of a large AC relay that takes the
place of the transmit switch, for grounding the
transformer center tap. The relay is mounted to the
front panel, under the pilot lights, with a couple of
6-32 screws. The mic jack was replaced by a
tip-ring-sleeve 1/4 inch jack.

Was this a modification kit sold by WRL? If it isn't,
then think on this.

Years ago, a friend in the radio club back home had a
Scout modified in exactly the same manner. I know the
Scout did not come with this relay installed; I have
seen several "stock" ones. But this one, relay and
all, looks dead-on exactly like the one I remember, so
much so that it's made me wonder if this could somehow
be the same rig. It'd be cool if it were, but I can't
quite bring myself to believe that! Mine came out of
the upper midwest, and the first one was from NC. I
know some of this stuff has been around, but...
