[WRL] 400B and VFO

I received several e-mails from people on the list in response to my post
regarding feeding my Globe King 400B with an external VFO. I thought I
would share the results with everyone. Several people told me that I would
not be able to do as the manual describes and feed the VFO into the VFO jack
on the rear of the RF deck after setting the switch to "OUT". This is how
the manual says to do it and the schematic looks like you are simply link
coupling the VFO to the buffer stage. Everyone was right about this and it
does not appear to work as described. Perhaps a much stronger VFO signal
would be sufficient to drive the link coupled circuit - not sure.

Anyway, several suggested to feed the VFO into the xtal socket with a .01
mfd blocking cap. This did the trick and after a quick tweaking of the VFO
output stage for max output the exciter works just fine.

Along the way I think that I discovered that my GK 400B is actually a 400C.
It has an 807 for the buffer (400B schematic calls for a 2E26), comes
equipped with PTT (not on the 400B schematic), and has some additional TVI
shielding in the cabinet. From what I gathered from various responses these
are the features that distinguish the B from the C model.

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond and offer assistance. Now that
I am "frequency agile" those slop buckets better watch out!
