[WIham] Working on a Heathkit HW-202

Tom,

Just going from memory, the radio probably is phase modulated, not true
FM. Small changes on the 6 MHz. crystal made for enough swing at 146
MHz. to deviate the carrier ok. The receive formula is 45 MHz. times 3
and either plus, or minus, 10.7 MHz. When that radio was probably
built, 146.94 MHz. was used as simplex. Also, who knows what crystals
got changed out before dumping the radio.

The mic was a crystal, or ceramic, high impedance style. Most older CB
mics were ceramic, as opposed to the newer, low impedance, dynamic mics
used today. Any old CB mic will probably work if you can find that
round, 2 pin, connector.

The HC-25U crystals were common to radios like the Regency HR2A, and
they might work fine in your radio. That does denote the case and pin
spacing.

Now that you can buy a new HT for well under $40.00, that does VHF and
UHF, even out of band stuff, your project is probably just a labor of
love. Good luck!

73, Nels....
