Who: YOU! All amateur radio All amateur radio operators are enthusiastically encouraged to volunteer for this outstanding event.
WHAT: The TREK 100 is a bicycle event that is compromised of three separate routes allowing participants to ride 30, 60 or 100 mile routes.
It is put on by Wauwatosa, Wisconsin based Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer whose mission is the raising of money for research into childhood cancers, leukemia and sickle cell disease. Each year between a half million and one million dollars are raised for the cause. The TREK 100 is one of the biggest fund raising efforts put on by the MACC Fund each year.
We are now in our 24th year. The ride's main sponsor is the TREK Bicycle Corp. of Waterloo, WI, which has donated millions of dollars to the event and to the MACC Fund.
As a testament to our efforts, the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Regional Medical Center has recently named a wing of the facility the "MACC Fund Research Center".
Ham volunteer efforts contributed to that greatly!
Amateur radio volunteers are needed to be shadows for ride management, to ride along with sag vehicles to pick up sagging riders and as rest stop communicators. Every job is important!
Over 30 hams are needed for this event.
When: The ride will be held on June 8, 2013. Ham volunteers will be assigned to positions that report anywhere between 6:00 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. though most assignments are much shorter.
Where: All three routes will start and end at the TREK Corporation headquarters in Waterloo, WI. Routes extend ads far north as Cambria and as far south as Cambridge.
What's in it for you?: All volunteers are invited to join us at the end of the ride for free food, soft drinks and beer. All volunteers receive a ride t-shirt to wear during the ride.
An after party is held several weeks after the event as a way of showing appreciation to volunteers.
Lastly, there is the great personal satisfaction of knowing that you were part of a great effort to help eliminate a pernicious disease - childhood cancer.
The TREK 100 is a great event for a great cause. Your help is needed. Please register as a ham radio volunteer at the ham volunteer web page at:
http://www.trek100hams.com/
Hams who sign up for this event before May 31 will have ride t-shirts mailed to them.
Please join us!
