Lots of fresh info up at kc9bqa.com for those who are VHF-
curious. Made several posts yesterday and this morning -- stop
by and see if the headlines interest you. I talk about how it's the
perfect time to tap into the DX potential of The Magic Band --
6 meters. Many helpful tips there.
Of special note are the weekly 2m SSB nets we have every
Wednesday night. Often times, guys don't know where or when
to find signals on 2m SSB/CW. It's a good feeling to tune in and
actually hear activity. You can always find out what our net
controls' plans are, plus scroll back a few pages and view the
variety of 6m, 2m and 432 MHz nets/activities that are on in our
region each week.
Monday night, the 2m Spring Sprint was a lot of fun. I had 50
contacts in 26 different grid squares, over a 4 hour span. Made
both closer-in contacts and worked multiple guys out to 200-400
miles. Remember, this is on/near 144.200, using longer yagis up
high, horizontally polarized, and about 100-200w output power.
These results were typical of flat conditions, no special band
enhancement was noted. This is possible anytime on 2m SSB, if
you make the necessary improvements to your antennas. The
antennas are far more important than your rig when you're trying
to make the most miles on VHF/UHF.
A more detailed report about my sprint is up at kc9bqa.com,
about halfway down the "front page"
If you have questions, I will try to help.
