Handy Hint for the Handheld
Don't operate your handheld with it hanging on your belt. Using the radio while
it's strapped to your waist reduces your effective radiated power by more than
10 dB. That's a 90% reduction in power! Hold the radio in your hand, with the
antenna in the clear.

Subject: [La Crosse Hams] La Crosse Area FM Simplex Net
Greetings.
As many of you know the Thursday Nite FM Net is scheduled at 8:30 PM CST. We
will be on 146.46 as usual. This is not a formal net and all are welcome to stop
in. The purpose of the net is to create activity on VHF and
also to have fun.
AN HT CAN BE USED TOO....
Anyone with an HT can get into the net directly or via relay from one of the
other stations checked into the net. It would be interesting to see what the
true range of your HT is. If you can hear one of the stations in the net,
give it a try. You may be surprised at the result. Get your neighbor on
his/her HT and just chat about the weather. Checking into the net is not the
ultimate goal. Experimenting, having fun and creating activity on VHF
is.
( To that end, anyone needing to test on other VHF bands is welcome to
stop in and ask to QSY, I have 50-1296, many others have 6,2 and 432 as well).
Topics for Thursday:
Should the net start time be moved up to 8:00 PM?
Special HT to HT contact period or HT nite for all?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2 meter Fall VHF Sprint is Monday nite, Sept. 20th, 7-11pm only
.
Hope to hear you on the air and thanks to all of you that make the effort to
get on and join us on Thursdays.
73,
Dave, WV9E
