A VHF contest is the single best time to tune in, if it's activity
you desire. Starting at 1pm Sat. and running until 10pm Sun. we
have the ARRL June VHF QSO Party. Link to rules:
http://www.arrl.org/june-vhf-qso-party

All V/UHF bands from 50MHz (6 meters) and 144 MHz
(2 meters) on up thru UHF and the microwaves are in play
for this one.

The vast majority of contacts are made on 6 and/or 2m, so
even guys with modest stations can enjoy much of the activity.
You do not have to be a "big gun" or contest the whole weekend.
V/UHF contests are far more casual than what you may have
heard on HF -- unless 6m opens up with sporadic E skip across
the USA, which is *really* a lot of fun.
The June contest is known for whopper 6m openings, so
tune around and see what you hear.

I never know when I might turn on a lightbulb in a ham's
mind, so here goes... I have a series of articles called
VHF Contesting School. There's still time for you to go thru
them and get up to speed for this weekend. (Also good VHF
contests on July 17-18, Aug 7-8 and Sept 11-12 and in later
January.)

Even if you aren't personally interested, you may think of a
few hams who are. Feel free to share this information with them.

I've been VHF contesting for 7 seasons now, and this is
easily the best time to get on board since 2003. Many new
signals are being heard across WI and N ILL.
