hi again jimmy,

here is a link to the live Knoppix disk I made.(
http://hamshack-hack.sourceforge.net/ )  it pretty much reflects how I have
my laptop set up to run my FT-897.  you'll down load the .iso image file
file and then burn the CD.  its about 600 meg so it'll download in an hour
or so on a DSL link and take days on dial-up.  for about $5.00 you can get a
copy from cheap bytes.com   since it'll boot off the cd, there is no need to
install anything on your hard drive.  lots of memory 1-2 gig or more is
reccomended since you'll be running in "ram-disk" fashion.  sorta like a
main frame :-)
