Subject: [MVARA] HF mobile antenna shootout
As part of the MVARA's 20th yr big event celebration we'll be having a special event on May 5th for our May meeting. We'll be setting up a test range that evening to measure the gain off of a HF mobile antenna at a measured distance, and with a measured amount of power. We're also inviting anyone to participate to see how your HF mobile antenna compares to others. So far some of the commercially made antennas scheduled to be there are Hamstick, Hi-Q, High Sierra, and a Predator.
The only requirements are that you have a valid amatuer license, be able to transmit a signal on the 75/80 mtr band due to the measuring device not being able to go above 5 mhz, and have the means to adjust your power to between 20-50 watts of output. We'll have a Bird wattmeter as a standard to measure the power output.
The time of the event will be 6:30 pm, May 5th at the west end of the parking lot near the intersection of 12th Ave S. and Crossing Meadows Dr. in Onalaska, Wi. This is the site of the Old Walmart store which was torn down, and west of the Festival Foods store. Hopefully it won't rain that evening, and even a light rain won't be much of a problem, but incase of severe weather we will hold the event the following evening on May 6th at 6:30 pm. Terry KB9YXV will be sending this on to the La Crosse Hams list, and Dave WV9E said he would pass this along to the Winona Area Hams mailing list, and another list. If you know someone who would like to participate, or come to watch please forward this along to them. Talk in will be on the 147.09 repeater that evening for anyone needing directions, or for checking on if we plan to go ahead in the event of rain. This info will also be posted on the MVARA website, www.mvara.net
Hope to see you all there.
73, Craig N9ETD
