I knew Mike would have to tell the W9AWE "family secrets"!!! I thought
"Murphy" had struck. With 5 minutes to go before the contest, I was
chomping at the bit, and that coax strung to my CW operating position looked
so inviting I had to plug it in and tune it up. I couldn't believe N9JF's
40m dipole had an SWR of infinity in the CW band! But it was just my "pilot
error" - I had an unused piece of coax. At least it was before the contest,
and I recovered in time to get the right coax hooked up. Thanks to ICOM's
protective circuitry, my 756 Pro didn't croak!

Fortunately, Murphy didn't return to either station. But don't ever ask
N9GXW to cut the hole in the latrine cover with his "saws-all". I'm still
picking splinters out of a sensitive part of my anatomy!

W9AWE CW results:
960 CW x 2: 1920 points
Mult's: 108
Score: 207360

N9GXW will be posting the SSB score, but he estimates it was over 47,000, so
we amassed a little just over a quarter million points for the WIARC effort.

The cooks deserve special credit. N9GXW fixes an outstanding vegetable
cheese soup on the camp cook stove. N9UPG's sandwich fixings were
outstanding too. And we owe a big thank-you to Myles KB9VEI and Matt
McCabe for their help with the operation also. Hope everyone else had as
much fun as we did.
