Cliff kicked butt that is for sure and nobody can say he did not! We could
not get him out of his chair for 9 straight hours! But, before you think he
has a big red "S" on his chest, remind me to tell you the story of Cliff, 5
minutes before the contest starts loading up a PL-259 as a dipole on 80
meters. He could get it to load fine but could not hear a thing!

Whew.
You guys that had to go to work Monday have my sympathy. We got in at 2
a.m., and I was sure glad no school called for a sub today! Three hundred
twenty-four miles, sixteen counties. That was the part during the contest.
We drove to Mt. Carmel on Saturday night and were 25 miles south of Mt.
Vernon when the contest was over....
I'd like to hear all the "war stories" ASAP for a newsletter article.
Thanks to everyone for all the effort. I heard a lot of you.
Unfortunately, we were "dead in the water" on SSB. I still don't know
why...probably an "RF in the shack" problem that surfaced with the extra
cords strung around. It wasn't an issue last year. The only bands where
the rig didn't shut down on SSB were 15 and 10. I called lots of IL
stations on 40 SSB and wasn't heard AT ALL. After awhile, I just gave up
and stuck to CW. My apologies to several club members who did not get the
counties I ran. I really did try....
On a brighter note, I did manage to work some of you. Cliff was loud and
fast at W9AWE/P. We worked seven times. One more, and I'd have had
additional mults for Hancock and Schuyler. I worked Barry at W9FGH/P right
before the contest started and then never heard him for the next three and a
half hours. I called N9DT/P once and he disappeared and I never heard him
again. Darell, did I scare you?? :)
Cliff posted a score of over 200,000. The guys at KR9L had 4700 points and
worked a lot of stuff I never heard. Our score is a little over 162,000.
(I'm using the plural because KB9JIZ made an SSB contact while I ran into
McD's for a bathroom break.... Otherwise, she skillfully performed the
driving duties.) N9GXW/P had about 47,000. All together, we're going to do
really well!
Those of you who need help with scoring and sending stuff in, let me
know.
Bring on the scores.
