*Note: Extreme Heat Warnings do not typically require Skywarn activation. *

The NWS Pittsburgh has moved parts of North Central West Virginia from a
Heat Advisory to an Extreme Heat Warning.

As shown in the graphic below, the Extreme Heat Warning line is slightly
east of I-79 with Morgantown and Fairmont both within the Extreme Heat
Warning area.

The Extreme Heat Warning runs until 2200 (10 PM) on Friday. (Thunderstorms,
if they occur could reduce temperatures on Friday.)

The difference between a Heat Advisory and an Extreme Heat Warning is
important.

“A heat advisory indicates that conditions are likely to cause heat-related
illnesses if precautions are not taken, while an extreme heat warning
signifies that dangerously high heat is expected or occurring, requiring
immediate action to protect health.” — Source: National Weather Service

You’ve heard the precautions. Avoid strenuous outdoor activities, keep
hydrated and stay in air conditioning if possible.
