The National Weather Service (NWS) sponsors an annual event called "Skywarn
Recognition Day." This gives amateur radio operators a chance to work the
various ham radio stations run by the local NWS offices. From the NWS:

*"SKYWARN Recognition Day acknowledges the contributions of amateur radio
operators and other public service volunteers who provide essential weather
information to the NWS as it's happening. Each year on the first Saturday
in December, the day honors those volunteers who pay attention when the
snow falls, the wind picks up, or the sky turns dark. Their efforts keep
their communities safer by communicating warnings to the National Weather
Service*."

The MWA is an official Skywarn club and the W8MWA 2-meter repeater will be
used as a Skywarn net when weather conditions warrant this..

This year the event will occur on December 2, 2023 from 0000z to 2400z. Not
all the NWS stations will operate over the entirety of the event. Fred
McMullen, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather
Service Pittsburgh Office, has provided the attached graphic showing what
times and what bands their station, WX3PIT, will be operating. I encourage
all members with HF privileges to participate.

Jeff, WB1AAL
