[W8MWA] Our ARRL 2020 Field Day... Different but a Unique Opportunity

Yeah... the 2020 Field Day operating event (not a contest) for our
Monongalia Wireless Association club will kinda suck, in that we probably
won't all be up on the mountain in-force together as usual and as a group
of close friends. HOWEVER, we can still see some unique opportunities as a
club and as an individual ham station operator! LET'S BE RADIO-ACTIVE!
Point One... we will combine ALL of our scores, as usual, into a final club
score. *EVERY contact COUNTS, regardless if you make 5 contacts or if
you make 50 contacts! *
Point Two... using our own personal call-signs this year, we will also have
a unique opportunity to add to our personal Worked All States (WAS) and
Provinces tallies (and even grab some DX for DXCC credits).
Point Three... use this year to make some PERSONAL goals for YOUR unique
Field Day operating event. Here are some reasonable and attainable type of
personal goal ideas... make your's and write them down and check your
results at the end:
What is my personal total Field Day contact goal? (10, 50, 75, 100, 200
contacts?)
What is my personal total Sections Worked goal? (There are 84 Sections to
work, plus DX! Prince Edward Island - PE - is a NEW Section to work this
year in Canada!)
How many different US States can I work toward WAS that I need in LOTW and
per Band that I need? Can I work 10, 25 or all 50 states over the weekend?
Can I bag Hawaii and/or Alaska... The Unicorns of Field Day... and at what
time and on what Band will be my best opportunity to get them in my Field
Day Log? (The Gray Line is your friend!)
Will I add some CW contacts to my score? (CW gets ya 2 points each!)
Will I try to add some 6 Meters contacts to my log?
Will I chase some 10 Meters and 15 Meters contacts when I see them pop up?
Will I add some other digital contacts such as FT8 or RTTY?
Will I try to work some West Virginia counties?
How many hours will I plan to work other stations that weekend?
How fast of a QSO Rate can I maintain that will improve my skills and add
to my total score? (10, 20 50 Q's per hour spent operating?)
Will I Search & Pounce (S&P) for contacts and/or will I try to RUN a
frequency of my own to maximize my contact rates?
These are just a few ideas to add some fun and challenge to our group
effort. Make sure you share your experiences with the group after the
operating event! We learn from each other!
