In an attempt to get APRS up and running for the Motown Marathon, I did
manage to get a system up and running at my QTH again.
Coverage is not that great in this location, but you're more than welcome
to turn on your APRS if you have it and see if you can receive it or tx to
it.
The APRS Freq is on 144.390 (default) and if you have a capable radio,
FT2D, FTM-500 and many others, set your second band to the APRS freq, turn
on your gps and APRS modem and leave it sit for a bit.
I would be interested in any reports from you, but please bear in mind, my
QTH is in a small valley, I radiate out better to the north and south on
VHF, located on 119 a mile south of Wally World.
This could be a good test for operation and coverage from my 20watt TX.
You might see some traffic of other stations near to Morgantown, I set the
filter to 60 miles but have seen stations in NJ for some weird reason.
If you need more info on how to operate APRS, please drop me a mail and I
will attempt to explain, but I can't go into detail on how any one
particular radio is set up, unless it is a Yaesu FT2D or possibly the
FTM-500.
Even if you don't have APRS, listen on 144.390 for the APRS modem, it is
not constant, intermittent depending on traffic, but if you hear it, let me
know please.
Send all reports if possible to KD8YNY at gmail.com
Much appreciated.
Dean
