Straight Key Night is coming January 1st. 2014. This is a fun night on the
radio. Instead of using your iambic paddles or CW keyboards amateurs who
participate use single lever straight keys. (Brass Pounders) It has also
lead to many bringing out older model radios some I have heard are nearly
80 years old! This is not a contest and is just a lot of fun especially
hearing what radios guys put on the air that night.
If you can't copy morse code but would like to listen in on the event there
are many free programs such as THIS
PROGRAM<http://www.amqrp.org/projects/cwdecod/decoder.htm>you can
download.
I usually get on the air with a Heathkit DX-40 (circa 1958) with homebrew
VFO (2010) and a homebrew 3 band receiver I designed and built in 1982. For
more information on this ARRL event go to the link *HERE
<http://www.arrl.org/straight-key-night>.*
If you are interested in learning CW (morse code) drop us a line at
monongalia.wireless at gmail.com . We can point you to some great online
lessons and maybe we will have enough for a class.
Hope to hear you on the air.
