Hello Members -
Field Day is getting closer. ARRL Field Day is the single most popular
on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada. On the fourth
weekend of June of each year, more than 35,000 radio amateurs gather
with their clubs, groups or simply with friends to operate from remote
locations. Field Day is a picnic, a camp out, practice for emergencies,
an informal contest and, most of all, FUN!
As Many of you know, We have moved our Field day site form the County
Facility on Route 12 to the Regal Ridge Community Center (RRCC). This
is for a couple or reasons:
* Avoid the noise that has been persistent at the Rt 12 site.
* Work in along side with a CERT exercise at the RRCC site.
* Test how well we can adapt to a new site.
* Become more publicly visible.
This year Field Day is June 24-25. The event officially kicks off at
2pm on the 24th. However, there is plenty of work to be done before that.
* Friday June 23rd at 5:00pm those of you who have the capability to
transport our gear (tables/chairs/tents/generators, etc..) please
make yourself available at the trailer at the Rt12 complex. The
rest of us will meet at RRCC to prepare the site.
* Friday June 23rd at ~5:30pm we will set up the tents, generators
tables, etc... Typically no stations or antennas get set up at this
time.
* Saturday June 24th ~8:00/9:00am we will have some Dunkin Donuts,
Bagles, Coffee (that's "swill" to you Phil) and then we will set up
our antennas and Stations.
* Saturday June 24th ~12:00 noon we will have a BBQ (world famous
Original Chili anticipated) and eat, chat and put last touches on
our installations.
Nicole K2NJH has certainly set us up with donated food. This food is
from ShopRite of Flemington. If you have the chance to purchase from
their store then please do so. We are planning to have a BBQ after set
up on Saturday. We could certainly use your donations of side dishes,
salads, chips, etc.. to round out the BBQ. Coolers with ice for drinks
are a must so we need your help out here. If they have drinks in them
then that's a bonus.
* Saturday June 24th at 2:00pm Field Day officially starts. With a bit
of luck, duct tape and bubble gum, hopefully we will be ready to start.
The event runs continuously up to 2:00pm on Sunday June 24th when Field
Day officially ends. I plan on staying during the over night hours. It
would be nice to have a backup just in case work calls me away and to
also keep me company during the wee hours. If there is anybody who can
get to the RRCC by 6-6:30am on Sunday morning for relief it would be
greatly appreciated.
* Sunday June 25th after 2:00pm we will begin to break down the Field
Day site. We need the same guys to help move our equipment back to
the trailer. Please keep in mind that many hands make light work.
If you are available to help with breaks down then please make the
effort. Many of will be tired and can use your help.
Below are a couple maps of our site at RRCC. This should help those of
you who are unfamiliar with the site find your way there. As per the
bottom map, Please keep in mind that the spot that says Holland
Township is a very steep hill. To the left of that is a less steep
hill. It is not advisable to bring a vehicle down these hills. RVCC
has offered a "gator" to help us move gear in and out of that field.
