I am in California in a business trip. Was not able to attend the
last meeting and the awards meeting because of work. I would like
to add my two cents to "Love it or Leave it". There is one event
that the club has put on for the last two years with improvements,
the booth at the 4-H fair. The idea originally come from Dennis
AB2PD about three years ago after a VE session. The with the first
booth I received criticism from a number of people, which I
appreciated because the improvements they suggested I incorporated
in the booth the next year. The success of the booth last year was
due to the excellent club participation. I had more than enough
people to set up, operate and take down the booth. And I have
heard very little criticism this year. Most of what I have heard
was praise. This booth attracted attention of the Hudson Division
coordinator and our club made it to the ARRL web pages.
I am sorry to see Walter W2WJO leave his office. Walter's
experience and work in obtaining the special event call sign, the
timely press releases and advertising in QST was invaluable in
making this event a official special event station.
As the education committee chairman I am saddened by the lack
of people that have signed up for the last two classes but I am not
at the point of giving up. Walter and I have exchange a number of
e-mails about how we can get more exposure to the public. Every
person that has attended classes in the past has done so because
some else personally talked to them about ham radio. In fact I got
into ham radio because some one talked to me and described what I
can do with ham radio, emergency communications when I travel on my
motorcycle. So getting more public exposure to what ham radio is
about is essential.
As field day chairman this year, I have received comments a
number of people and the presentation that I plan to make at the
next meeting will reflect those comments. I was hoping to do this
last meeting but as I said work prevented me from being there.
Please direct all comments and suggestions directly to me either
through, e-mail (ramgl at netcarrier.com), phone (908-832-9118), or in
person. And when it is done please direct all criticism directly
me so improvements can be made.
From what I have seen in the past, when the club is presented
with an event that needs to be maned, or work that needs to be done
the club has responded to meet the need.
