    Hello to all,

Due to the ongoing efforts of the MEMA staff and many radio
operators who are engaged in relief operations due to this weekend's
long duration storm and the possibility of another storm on the near
term horizon, this month's RACES/ACS Communications test that
would normally occur tomorrow, March 5, 2018 will be canceled.
I know that the radio operators for Sector 2C (Cape and Islands) got
quite a workout and continue to work now to keep communications
operational in their area. A HUGE thanks to all of the operators who
worked long hours and under adverse conditions in order to respond
to a storm that is turning out to be one of the more impactful
weather events to hit our area in recent memory.

This cancellation does not in any way suggest that operators
who would like to test their gear or who may participate in local
communications testing shouldn't do so. Such tests are encouraged
with the caveat that operators be careful not to tie up frequencies
that may be used in an emergency and that operators also be mindful
that some EOCs are actively responding to incidents and distractions
for testing are unlikely to be a welcome occurrence.

Due to the ongoing MEMA operations, radio operators are
STRONGLY DISCOURAGED from performing their monthly test of the
MEMA VHF system tomorrow due to possible use in response to the
      current incidents.

I encourage operators who worked with their served agencies
during this event to keep notes on lessons learned and best
practices used to meet the needs of your served agencies. Please
check with your EMD or agency contact to see if there is any
information that we could have provided better, faster, more
accurately or in a more useful format for them. I would like this to
be a major topic during our next on site radio operator meeting.
(No, one has not been scheduled yet, however it will likely coincide
with the next EMD meeting at Region #2... so stay tuned.) There
really is nothing like a full out activation to learn where and how
    we can do better.

The next regularly scheduled monthly net will be Monday
    April 2nd, 2018.

If anyone has any questions or comments I can be reached by
    e-mail or cell phone.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Leger (N1YLQ)
