The National Weather Service has provided an update on the strong coastal storm that will impact the state Monday evening into Tuesday. From the National Weather Service:

* Models have slowed the progression of this system by about 6 hours, so it now looks like the brunt of the storm will be mainly Monday night.
* Winds will reach their peak Monday evening on the south coast and after midnight on Cape Ann. Still looks like 60+ mph gusts. Could reach 70 mph, especially on outer Cape Cod and Nantucket.
* Increasing concern about ice buildups in the higher terrain of western MA and northern Worcester County. We are now forecasting 0.25" to 0.50" of freezing rain in those areas. This is borderline Ice Storm Warning criteria. There will also be a lot of sleet and some snow in those areas (total of 1 to 2, possibly 3 inches).
* Headline changes: Have issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of north central and western MA (slopes of Berkshires) as well as for Hartford County (the Hartland area of extreme northwest Hartford County could have 0.1" of ice, along with some sleet and snow).
* This remains a dangerous storm for mariners. We still are forecasting seas of 20-22 feet with near-hurricane force gusts (55-60 knots) over the waters east of Nantucket and Cape Cod Monday evening and Monday night.
* Heavy rains in eastern MA and RI will amount to 2 to 2.5 inches with local 3 inch amounts. The majority of the heavy rain will fall in a short amount of time, from 10 PM Monday to 6 AM Tuesday. Besides urban flooding, we will need to keep an eye on small stream rises.
* As for coastal flooding, the timing of the main winds now coincides with low tide Monday night, which means that most areas should see only minor coastal flooding - splashover, etc. The winds will still be quite strong, though, with 20 ft seas off the coast, early Tuesday morning in northeast MA during the 8-9 AM high tides. Thus, there is some potential for reaching isolated low-end moderate flooding in places like Newburyport and Plum Island. It would require a 2.5 ft surge there, which is a little above what is being forecast. Coastal Flood Advisories may need to be issued in subsequent packages, but coastal flood Watches or Warnings are not anticipated.
