Dear Ray, The Harvard Pilgrim Finish at the Fifty is a combined 5K and 10K foot race with unique appeal: the finish line for both courses is Gillette Stadium’s 50-yard line. The race is the main event of a whole festival of fun activities—including a fireworks show afterward—that draws a diverse crowd. This year’s event is adding water stations that require communications support, as well as an adjusted 10K route based on runner feedback. The Finish at the Fifty is on Friday, July 3. Hams will work with medical volunteers to ensure runners’ safety and wellbeing. Volunteers will report to Gillette Stadium at 5:00 PM, and assignments will run until about 8:00 PM. Of course, you’ll be welcome to stick around for the fireworks show—those start at 9:00 PM. There are positions appropriate for hams of all experience levels at this event, and it’d be great to have your help. To volunteer, just write back with the following information: Your call sign, full name, and name you prefer on the air Your cell phone number (if you have one), plus any other numbers where you prefer to be reached leading up to the event The transmit band(s) of your radio(s) Your shirt size Do you have any needs or requests we should consider when making your assignment? If you have questions about the race, or any other BARC public service event, please get in touch with me by e-mail at ab1rl at arrl.net, or phone (859) 466 5915. Thank you, and 73, --
