[W1SMH] I have learned....

I had entered a number of channels into two memory groups using the Yaesu
Software but could not invoke the memory groups in the radio to scan them.
Example, I have all my air channels (except ATIS) in one group and all my
New Haven Channels in another for visits to my brother. You could put all
the channels for a public service event in another group. I downloaded the
free software which works slick but it offered no clue how to make them work
on the radio either.

I then was chasing through the ADMS help file and discovered that the
instructions to call up a memory group in the printed manual included with
the radio are WRONG!!

This works:
Press <MR> on radio to enter memory mode.
Press <FW> and then <4> to activate memory group selection.
Turn knob to select desired memory group.
Press <MR> to lock in selected memory group.
Press and HOLD <MR> to scan selected memory group.
		Go merrily along listening...............
Press <VFO> to exit above mode.

Other info on web site mentioned earlier is s/n info to tell which radios
had PL decode problem and which revs used whatever jumpers to create radio
personality by s/n group.

For KA1IG: Go to www.dxzone.com and search for VX5 to find info mentioned
above. The programming software available at the site works on several of
the Yaesu radios and allows direct programming in Hex for those with
ambition.

I knew we could do it! 73 Syl

PS: ATIS, Air Terminal Information Service, (weather, active runway, other
conditions) runs 24/7 and never shuts up.
