Harry,

I was lazing on the couch in front of a fire this afternoon reading the
Third Edition (1938/1944) of "The Radio Manual" by Sterling. In the chapter
on police radios were two US maps that may include some information you
want.

One is titled "Frequency Assignments of State Police Stations, as of March
1, 1937" and shows 1682 for CA, 1698 for AZ and 1634 for NV.

The other one is titled "Frequency Assignments of Municipal Police
Frequencies, as of March 1, 1937" and shows the following for California,
from South to North:
2490 - extreme southern CA and a bit of SW AZ
1712 - southern CA, Pacific to NV border, including LA, Bakersfield, etc.
 2414 - central CA
1674 - southern part of bay area, Monterey?
2468 - northern part of bay area
1658 - eastern? part of by area
 2422 - northern CA

Also, 2430 for AZ and 2474 for NV.

The rest of the chapter describes the Baltimore Dispatch Room and several
models of Western Electric police radios in the 34-42 Mc range.

Hope this helps,
Craig

Hello again,

Updating my LAPD Communications History website some more, and would
appreciate any info about their old radios and frequencies, especially
through the 1931-1960 era.

Information I've received from several sources indicates their original
mobile radios (receive only, of course) were "modified broadcast
receivers made by Sparton, using B batteries..." Anyone have any
ideas of what models these radios could have been (this was in early
1931)? Would give my left something-or-other for a picture.

Also I'm filling in many gaps in their radio frequency usage over the
years, but could always use help with that. Nobody seems to have ever
documented this kind of stuff.. wasn't "real" cops & robbers stuff I
guess.

You could look up what I have - and don't have - at
http://members.cox.net/marnells/1949comms.htm
http://users.snowcrest.net/marnells/1949lapd.htm
and
http://users.snowcrest.net/marnells/kma367-2.htm

Thanks in advance... and enjoy looking at my little website if you're so
inclined
