[Vintage-Radio] L.A. Police used AM broadcasters first in the 1920s?

I am interested in reproducing the loop receiving antenna shown in the 
photos.  From the best I can tell from the photo, it looks like the support 
memebers are flat pieces of wood with notches on the edge to hold the wires. 
  I count 12 turns.  I cannot tell for sure if there is wire on both sides 
of the wooden slats or just one side.  Maybe someone more familiar with this 
kind of loop could provide details.
