This is for the benefit of subscribers to this list who may not be aware
of Duane's situation. The following was posted to the Hallicrafters
ham radio list on January 7th by a friend of his family:
-------------------
If anyone has been wondering why they have not heard from W8DBF, or why he
has been absent from the nets, it is due to serious health problems that
caught up with him over the holidays. Duane has been suffering from
severe kidney problems, and has also been found to have severe type 1
(insulin-dependent) diabetes. Shelly tells me that he was found
unconscious in his house, and had to be hospitalized. At this writing,
he is in critical condition, although he has had some improvement. Shelly
informs me that Duane is not well enough to live on his own anymore, and
will require daily kidney dialysis for the foreseeable future. Once Duane
is stronger, he will need to move into a nursing home or assisted living
facility. Your prayers will be appreciated, of course. If you would like
to send your wishes to Duane, you can do so through his daughter. Shelly
Fischer Carpenter, Duane's daughter, may be reached through her Facebook
account at:

--------------
There have been several updates since then, and while the initial crisis seems to have passed, Duane has suffered several setbacks and his overall health is still precarious. The best way to get information is to check Shelly's Facebook page.
I'm sure you all know that this list was very near and dear to Duane, and join me in hoping that his situation will improve to the point where he can again enjoy his vintage audio and ham radio hobbies. If you care to send a card, here is the best address to use:

I regret having to make this posting, but wanted everyone to be aware of the situation.
