A company which acquired the rights to the name "E.H. Scott" from the estate of the Chicago-based
manufacturer of top-of-the-line Short Wave radios (some with 20 or more tubes, including a 30-tube radio), began manufacturing audio products (a tuner, several amps and preamps, and a precursor of the Bose reflected sound speakers, in the late 1950s in Annapolis, MD. The manufacturing was under a subsidiary of Chesapeake Instruments, and the initial factory was an indoor garage opposite the West entrance to the Naval Academy.
H.H. Scott sued on trademark infringement and won. EH changed its name to Ravenswood and continued making
products largely distributed through Liberty Music stores in NYC. I saw their items at the Madison Ave store which
partially faced the Rectory of St. Patricks church. It didn't help, and they went under although their biggest seller the "Liberty-o-phone"
did pretty well (it was a knock-off of the KLH portable phono-radio combo).
The FM tuner was by Dave Hafler, as was the stereo demod, both manufactured under license. Before expiring, Ravenswood moved
to quarters near what is now Parole Plaza in Annapolis.
Does anyone have any info on the company?
