[Vintage-Audio] Song Title Puzzle

Well Sheldon, that gives us three correct answers. Well done group!

What struck me as even more interesting was that both Gerry and Bob said;
Well sure, that would be Lonnie Donegan and his skiffle group. I had to
look up "skiffle" one time when some DJ said that! I also like his
"Rock Island Line" mostly because it sounds like he was on speed or
something when he recorded it! Bob

Gerry said roughly the same thing.

Both mentioned the song "Rock Island Line". Frankly, I have never heard that
one by him. I have only heard it, both instrumental and vocal versions, by
Nashville Artists.

Alright, I throw in the official DBF very very old bowling towel! What the
rodent's rump hair is a "Skiffle" group?

Where do you guys find these terms anyhow? I'll bet a brain wave monitor
tuned for your unique EEG wave form patterns while in the Alpha sleep zone
would display some fascinating visual imagery! (there are four levels of
sleep. Alpha to Delta, with Alpha being the highest sleep level just pas the
border of the Twilight Zone. Most dreams "appear" to occur here, but that is
only because the brain is 'awake' enough to allow memory of dreams to take
place. Down yonder in Delta is where most nightmares happen. Almost nobody
ever remembers a nightmare, just the terror, a few still shot images of
something awful etc. Which is one reason why a young child awakened from a
nightmare is almost impossible to console. Along with the fact that your
metal belt buckle is poking him/her in the rump! For more information on
Dreams, Sleep And Extra Sensory Perceptions, read my college thesis from
1969. Hey! That is true, the University of MI has it on file as a research
document.)

As I wandered down the pot hole ridden path through my memory lane I could
not help but wonder whatever became of some of the so called "One Hit
Wonders". Some of them I can about guess, went back to shooting large fat
rodents that inhabit the NYC sewer system. Some call them politicians others
just well fed rodents! Others probably just never got lucky again and had
another song they recorded chart. Back in those day, for the youngsters
among us, a term called "payola" had real meaning! Cash in the hand of a
local DJ often times influenced what songs got on his weekly 'play list', as
well as how many times "certain" songs got played! Such as the classic
"Alley OOP" by the Hollywood Argyles. Funny the first tfew times you heard
it, after that ...

That song stayed at, or near, the top of the Billboard chart for how many
weeks guys? I know, TOO many! One local DJ in Flint wh worked for WTRX on
1330, actually got a turntable up on the roof of the station and played that
song, and ONLY that song hour after hour after hour! He vowed to stay up
there and keep playing the song until people stopped requesting it, buying
it and it got out of the top five on the national charts!

What a media frenzy he created! Great PR for WTRX too! That DJ was up there
on the roof for several days! I think he slept in a sleeping bag when the
station was off the air from midnight until whenever! Ah yes, the good old
sixties!
