[Vintage-Audio] M3D

Partially answering my own question - a look with the jewelers loupe
made it clear why I heard distortion on the Shure M3D cartridge. Most of
the stylus was missing! Since these seem to be held in some esteem
amongst audio types I ordered a replacement stylus and am anxious to
hear how it sounds. Meanwhile I swapped the shell from my other Garrard
"A" and am enjoying the curbside-reclaimed turntable.

A question - is anyone using the old Rek-O-Kut turntables and tonearms
like the viscous damped Gray models? I had one of these as a kid and
since it was single play and nowhere near as cool as the Voice of Music
or whatever cheap-o models my friends had it went away long ago. Even
though the ones like I had are rim drive, they seem to be well
thought-of. As I recall the motor was probably big enough to run a
decent-sized home appliance.
