[Vintage-Audio] Re Issue With Sony DAT Unit

Hi All,

Well, I remain perplexed. I found the remote, put fresh batteries in it,
aimed it at the Sony DTC ZA5 ES DAT deck and pressed the "clear" button.
Nothing happened.

I tried several other remote control operations, such as "play", "pause",
"eject" etc. All worked. Hence, the remote was working.

I also tried pressing "clear" and then "enter". No change.

I am wondering if this word in red "OVER" is supposed to be this way? The
display shows 60 db down to 2 db from left to right. The word "OVER" is to
the right of the last number, 2 db. Below this horizontal line of numbers
are the little dash like marks that move to indicate the signal strength.
None of the numbers light up, the position of the moving left channel and
right channel dash mark indicates the strength. Simply put, if the left
channel dash mark is below 20 db, that is the signal strength.

I got 'NO' help from Sony's tech support. Sad. They used to be fantastic.
The guy I got had absolutely no clue what I was talking about. I had to give
him the model number five times! I finally insisted on a senior supervisor
and got one.

He said just what Wolfman Bob said, press the "clear" button on the remote.
I asked him if 'peak hold' was the factory default setting, he said that it
was.

I also asked if this word in red "OVER" would affect my ability to record
music or playback music? He said it would not.

I am open for suggestions gentlemen.

FYI: I learned one thing. The model number on a remote control unit does NOT
match the model number of the product! Now me being blind, and you being
sighted, you may have known this, I did not. Naturally the right remote was
the last of the fourteen I went through to find it!
