Duane,

Here's a site devoted to NEW vinyl releases.

http://vinylmatters.com

You'll find a lot of re-released stuff, of course. Labels like Sundazed
have made their reputation re-releasing titles of nostalgic interest.

But you'll also find a lot of new stuff, like the Beatles' "Love" record
and Paul McCartney's Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. I don't know if
Starbucks has released Memory Almost Full on vinyl. I have to say, my
instinct says no.

My wife worked for many years in a local record store. I still patronize
that and a couple other record stores where I live. My perception is
most major labels have never stopped releasing some small amount of
vinyl for the hardcore market. Most, but not all, new vinyl seem to be
artists that appeal to fans of classic rock and jazz- so the Beatles
have always had some vinyl in print. There may very well have been
lapses, I'm not omniscient. Niche labels like Blue Note, as far as I can
tell, have never stopped releasing high quality vinyl. There are
independent labels that continue to release vinyl, some of their
releases are vinyl only. Mostly music geared for younger audiences,
which seems to be the source of the recent resurgence of interest in
vinyl, especially the 45 market (did you know there was a 45 market?!
That surprised me!)

Michael

Subject: [Vintage-Audio] Re Vinyl Albums Now Being Produced?

Hi All,

I was "watching" a program on the "Science Channel" last week and they
devoted half of the program to several companies that were currently
producing 33 1/3 rpm vinyl albums. They did not name any of the
companies or
mention any studios.

The narration did make a solid point of clearly stating that some
diehard
vinyl album fans demand music on vinyl records and not on digital CDS.
Hence, according to this program, quite a few major Artists were
releasing
their artistic musical talents on both 33 1/3 rpm vinyl albums and
digital
CDS.

The program went into considerable detail as to how the vinyl album goes

from a backhoe bucket scoop cradle to a precision machined, trimmed and
microscopically scrutinized album. Fascinating!

Do any of you know who the companies are that are producing these albums
and
where I could purchase them?

Where can I get a list of Artists currently available on new vinyl?

Thank you very much.
