Hi All,

The 1963 H.H. Scott LK-72b integrated stereo amplifier had provisions for a
third channel. A mix of left+right fed via a rear mounted RCA female jack to
an external amplifier and speaker. And you though surround sound was new?

I had a pair of JVC six-way columns for the center channel being driven by a
95 watt RMS per channel amplifier. I had the "A" speaker system and the "B"
speaker system operating in mono so that I could drive each column with 95
watts. It sounded fantastic!

Once the audio level of the amplifier driving the center channel speakers is
set, then the LK-72b controls them. That is, when the Bass or Treble are
set, or the volume raised or lowered, the external centernal channel
amplifier changes to match the primary amp. If I turn the volume on the
LK-72b to zero, there is no audio heard from the left channel, the right
channel or the center channel.

The JVC six-way column contained two 12 inch woofers, one 5 inch midrange
and three tweeters. The cabinet had two rear ports.

I replaced the JVC six-way columns, a total of twelve speakers, with my
'recently acquired' second set of J.B.L. Century L-100 speakers. They are
sitting on the floor, not on stands.

For Wolfman Bob: The west wall below the shadow box on the wall, above the
octagonal glass top end table, between the two recliners. The JVC were there
when you were here!

I could not believe the difference in the sound! The James B. Lansing
Century L-100's just blew the six-way JVC columns away! The mono center
channel sounds better then the main left and right three-way speaker
systems! Everytime I play the vintage H.H. Scott system and hear that center
channel in conjunction with the mains, it just blows my mind.

The JVC were 'not' bad at all! But the JBL Century L-100 speakers are just
better.

Sometimes it is just a case of matching up the right speakers to the
amplifier to produce spectacular audio.
