Hi Bob...

Perhaps I can shed some light on your inquiry.

The KLH Model 19 was the same as the Model 11P,
only difference being the enclosure. The
loudspeaker that came with both, although once
again in different enclosures, was what we called
the 703W (Model 19) or the 703P (Model 11). It was
a single, full frequency driver. Internally, we
referred to it as the 12.5FW. The enclosure was a
non-ported, sealed enclosure. The two were sold
with two changers. One was a Garrard 3000 and the
other was a BSR (Forgot Model Number...Senior
Moment).

The specifications for the Model 19 were very
similar to the Model 24. Those specifications
are...

Amplifier Section:

RMS Power:  8 watts/ch into 6 ohms @ 1.0 kHz with
< 1.0 THD
Frequency Response: +4.0 db at 100 hz to -1.5 db at 20
kHz using 1.0Khz at 1 watt.
IM Distortion: 1% @ 1 watt: 2.0% @ 4.5 watts. 60
hz and 3.0 kHz mixed 4:1, both channels driven
Aux Input Sensitivity: 1.2 v RMS, Maximum - 0.2v
RMS, Minimum
Hum & Noise: 55 db below 3.0 v RMS rated at
speaker output

Tuner Section:

IHF Sensitivity: 4.0 uV (Mono)
Seperation: 28 db minimum, both channels
Distortion: Less than 1% T.H.D., 100% modulation,
in mono at 1.0 kHz

One of the major problems of our products from
that era was with the design, using driver
transformers and unique PNP output devices. They
are very difficult, if not impossible to find
today and/or source replacements. Early versions
of the Model 21 used the same output PCB assembly
as the 11 and the 19.

Hope this answers some of your questions...

->I thought someone here might know about
->the KLH 'suitcase stereos' made
->from 1965 through about 1971.   I've
->admired them from afar for years,
->but knowing that if the superior audio
->quality of my model 21 FM radio
->is any indication, they would probably
->retain top value. Well, I got to
->looking around and found that's not
->actually the case, as I got a model
->19 via eBay for less than the cost of shipping!
->
->While it works and sounds as nice as
->I'd imagined, it is missing the
->original KLH speakers, and I wonder if
->anyone might have the model
->numbers or specs, in case I might come
->across a pair of the proper
->ones. I've read they were acoustic
->suspension types, not a surprise
->since KLH was founded by AR pioneer
->Henry Kloss and I do have a pair of
->small Advents (the company he founded
->after he left KLH) that I'll try
->on it . But I've also read that the
->original speakers were a ported
->design with 4" woofers, which sounds
->more likely to me, given that the
->amp is maybe capable of 10 watts per channel.
->
->Otherwise, the model 19 consists of the
->very sensitive KLH FM tuner with
->it's trademark rotary tuning dial, and
->the amplifier mounted in the
->walnut turntable base.  The turntable
->is a customized Garrard AT-6 with
->a low-mass tone arm with a Pickering
->V-15/AT-2 cartridge.  The other
->models were pretty similar, I think.
->
->Any information would be appreciated as
->there's not much information on
->the web about these units, even though
->I've read they sold 500,000 of
->them. And of course the current KLH
->Audio is just a brand name.
->
->Thanks and 73,
->Bob W9RAN
