No question a big heavy 15 inch sub will rattle the rafters
and break windows, but it is only for movies and
earthquakes, not for music. If you have problems getting
your rump to fall asleep then just fire up that heavyweight
and you will soon be as numb as if you were on a Harley.
No question the JBLs have a very clean and well engineered
lowend, but a bass reflex just aint the same as a well
engineered acoustic. Kloss knew how to get acoustics to
work, after graduating MIT he was first at AR, then KLH and
n in '67 he formed Advent and later Cambridge Sound Works.
I am a lover of acoustic loaded Kloss speakers although in
my office my main left and right speakers are 12 in. JBLs.
But the front and rear center speakers are 12 in. Advents,
the two side speakers are 8 in. KLHs and the left and right
rear are 12 in. acoustic Wharfedales. only the JBLs are bass
reflex. The computer has a 5.1 system by Cambridge Sound
Works (all acoustic) so my office has 14 speakers, only the
JBLs are ported.
Back under my desk is a 12 in. down facing sub woofer that
has 150 W amp of its own. It hasn't been on for a couple
years.
