[Vintage-Audio] What Did They Really Do?

I've still got several to many DBX encoded disks that are the same size as 
33's, but are actually 45 RPM records.

While I have not played any of them since I've been banished to the 
basement, I still have all the equipment.

What happens, with this particular system, is that the sound is compressed 
when recorded, and then, with the proper devices in line when played back, 
expanded.

As I recall, the system worked very well, but was never very popular, due to 
cost or whatever.

This reminds me to dig out the records and equipment and give it another 
whirl.
