Hi all,

I have a Voice of Music turntable with a bakelite tonearm- no facility
for adjustment as far as I can see. It's a very simple deck. The
cartridge is a sonotone 8TA (turnover 78/LP type needle), just fine for
most purposes, but I'm interested in upgrading. By "upgrading" I just
mean a cartridge with better sonic balance for Long Players.=20

I have two problems. One is I have no control over tracking force, so
using something new is probably out of the question. Or maybe not, I
really have no experience with decks like this. The sonotone came
mounted on this turntable originally, as nearly as I can tell.

Second problem: obviously, there is no ground wire. On old tube stereos
this deck does OK, but on a newer amp there is a very pronounced ground
hum. Is there a simple way around this, or do I just have to use this
turntable with a tube amp? I love tube amps, don't get me wrong, I just
really want to use it with a transistor amp of very fine quality in this
particular installation. My tube amps are already doing double and
triple duty in other rooms of the house.

Thanks for any insight!
