Hello Bob,
The wife factor? Hmmm. I used to have one of those about twenty years back.
Traded me in for a different model. No longer a problem where I want to put
things and if they are properly color coordinated and so forth.
Women have to move furniture periodically. When I get a room arranged for
comfort and efficiency, it stays like that. The only solution I ever found was
to designate certain rooms as hers and one or two as mine. She always got more
than I did! Then you still hear, "Where did you get that ugly photo of those
Timber Wolves anyhow?" Reply, "You gave it to me when we were dating." Then one
day a friend comments on the nice waterfall landscape photo on my wall in the
den. Women! Took advantage of me not being able to see and did a picture swap
out. As a result I just happen to play some music I recall she hates. But only
when others are present to minimize the risk of flying objects!
Keep the dog, get rid of the wife. If the dog gets old and mean, it can be laid
to rest peacefully and economically, the wife will cost you a lawyer and half of
everything you own and thensome!

Duane,
I discovered she would listen with my AKG's. So I let her use
an old pair of Sony headphones. And I will never let her near
my Koss ESP-9's. There have been dogs I've known that will
lay between the speakers and listen but this is a first putting
ears to the headphones.
When I get a few spare minutes I'll get out the JVC ribbons
and get the model number to pass on. I also have a photo
of the prototype system built years and years ago. The
woofer in it was changed to a more reliable Dynaudio 8"
and for the follow-on pairs over the years I have used 10"
woofers instead of 8". With either size the bass is authoritive
with full orchestra or large pipe organ. No subwoofer is
needed.
I used to build the enclosures for less than $15 a pair. I'd
go to a local countertop manufacturer who would save me
maple butcher-block sink cutouts for $1 each. My son and
I thought butcher-block speaker cabinets were cool. Then
he got married. All of a sudden they became un-cool.
Has anyone else come upon the wife factor in not being
able to use certain equipment as it does not fit the decor?
