[Vintage-Audio] Re Bose 901 And EQ

There is a whale of a lot more to a good speaker (we
really mean good sound) than flat frequency response.
Use of ANY equalization just takes away from whatever
is good about a speaker system.

And it's a shame that 98% of the population has be be
taught how to use their ears to really listen. They miss
the majority of what they hear in addition to being a
victim of Madison Avenue and merchandising efforts.

Live unamplified music is the best and if you are not
regularly exposed to it, well, you just need to listen to
what satisfies your hunger for vibrations in the air.

Like any bad speaker, you may get something acceptible from
the use of a parametric, not graphical, eq... I have found
from my own experience that the negative effects of inferior
enclosures with distracting resonant effects, for instance,
can be modulated, but not eliminated, using very controlled
equalization, something parametric eq can do but graphic eq
simply cannot. But no amount of equalization can help a bad
driver, which the 901 has several of.

Bose not only don't sound good without the equalizer, they
sound
terrible. Even with the equalizer they are very poor compared
to most
anything else..even your JBL 100s.
