Ed,
These hubs have ball bearings inside to permit rotation. They lock onto the reel
spindel and the ten inch reels lock onto them. quite a complex item. They sell
for $90+, if you can find them! This pair is new.
What you are thinking of are the little rubber caps that press against a seven
inch reel and hold it onto the spindel. The press on, but do not lock.

Never having had a reel-to-reel machine, Duane, I don't know for sure what
a "hub" is. Is it the 'thing' that holds the reels on? I always figured it
was just a sort-of slip-on rubber cup. From the sound of this, it obviously
is a lot more complicated than that!
By the way, me, I just have two Phillips DCCs. I got one when Macy's closed
an electronics outlet here in Marietta... and the other by mail from DAK
when they REALLY closed them out for, like, $100 or so. Meanwhile, we had
been up in NYC on vacation years ago (the year of the baseball strike) and
actually went by "J&R Workd of Music" and bought around 20 tapes-since I
already saw the handwriting on the wall for them, and didn't figure the
blank tapes would be available for too long. If I ever get my audio
switching unit built, I plan to use one for a "channel" for ham radio
recording, and one for SWL/Scanning recording.
