Your Classic SCA-35

If you are lucky enough to have one that is a strong 8 or more, then you may
want to keep it.

The audio geeks and audio test labs dudes... have always used them, as a
reference unit. Even when they were under a house for years. Dirty, dusty with
weak tubes, bad caps, poor solder joints with ugly pots and switch's. Most of
the time they still sound great. They do not have much power, so use some
efficient KLH speakers or better yet some Electro Voice's or maybe K horns. The
audio fidelity is excellent..

One of the biggest problems is the cosmetics. The gold panel and silk screen
become damaged or show signs of use.. To most people looks are everything and I
understand that. I have purchases a few for $ 25 to $ 50. But a nice clean, good
working unit is about $ 100 to $ 175. It all depends on the buyer  the seller,
the market and unit.

Now that I have said all that....

Any of us, that have ever built, designed, repaired, modified or engineered
audio amps. Understand for the most part, the designs, outside of a few minor
modifications. Have never changed over the last 30, 40, 50 or even 70 years or
more. It had taken me a longer time then it should, to fully understand. The
most important part of the amp it the transformers.. The transformers are
everything... It's nice to have excellent cap and resistors,  smooth pots,
expensive tubes... Bla, Bla Bla. But when all is finished. The transformers are
everything. That is why you can bench test 15 units from the United States,
Japan or Europe. All with similar designs and components from Lafayette, Olson,
Heath, Dyna, Eico, Scott, Fisher, Leak, Quad and the list go on and on. It you
do no have good iron, you will never have decent sound no matter what components
you use.

That was the key factor with the SCA-35, the ST-70 and the Black mono blocks.
They just had great iron.

The SCA-35 is a Excellent unit. I'm sure you have something else you can sell,
that you will never know it is missing.
I nice 35 is hard to find..
