[Vintage-Audio] Vanishing Speakers?

Michael,

EICO, heh? Well son, my first stereo amplifier was an EICO. Unfortunately I do
not recall the model. I do know that it was purchased in December 1963 in kit
form for about $80. (My cousin bought it at Pecar Electronics in Detroit, and he
may have got it at cost), had 15 watts RMS per side, no cabinet, brushed
stainless steell front panel and no loudness comp. I used it for ten years and
only changed one tube that went microphonic.

My dream system is more of a recreation of yesteryear than a dream system. i
tended to dream realistically, sort of. Because I was blinded in October 1964,
and because I heard my first stereo that December, I would like to recreate that
system. I have the H. Scott LK-72b amplifier, H. Scott LT-110 FM Stereo
Multiplex Tuner, Marantz turntable, Akai 4000sd tape deck and modern speakers.
Hence, I want to get either the Electro-Voice or the James B. Lansing models.
The EV system may have been a two-way that my cousin was using in 1964, he does
nto recall for sure.

I have to get ready to do the HCI Global Glow roundtable now on 14.315 Mhz usb,
more later on my dream system.

Just wondering, Duane, what does or would your dream 1963 system consist of?
would you drive those EVs or JBLs with a Marantz 8b? or a Mac?

I have a particular affinity for budget amps of the period, mainly because I've
never had the cash to spend any quality time with a higher end unit like the 8b.
Although I did have the pleasure to audition one, and I was very, very
jealous... but I'm happy with my Eico HF81, and I'll bet it could perform some
magic with your dream speakers.

I have a similar aspiration to put together a dream system, of more affordable
pieces. Can anyone recommend the Leak Sandwich speakers? I've heard they are
easy to blow. I would also be interested in someone's opinion of lowthers.
