[Vintage-Audio] Re Speakers From Yesteryear

Be Aware....

The center channel is coming..

During the late 50s through the early 80s and awful lot of
music was mixed down or even mic'd in three channels. It was
then mastered to two channels to support the stereo LP
market. The tape folk tried for many years to get a standard
that would let the three channels be put on tape and sold,
but the LP biz was too powerful and squashed all attempts.
They wanted the commercial tape to sound like the LP. There
was no real way to get three channels on an LP.

Now two things or really three things have happened. First
Sony owns a lot of this 3 channel music and second Sony has
developed SACD, the Super Audio Compact Disc. The third is
that 5.1-A is also capable, and Phillips also owns some of
this old music. SACD is a CD that has 6 full range channels
each capable of 10 Hz-50 KHz and 130 dB dynamic range. Dolby
5.1 has 5 full range with a lot less performance, but
enough.

There has been at least one SACD released, that I know of,
with the original and as captured and un screwed with audio
in three full range channels and that is Miles Davis' "Kind
of Blue". I have, at the moment, two JBLs for the left and
right and an Advent 10 in the center. It is awsome sound.
The SACD/DVD/CD player is a Sony DVP NS500V which is going
for about $150 on eBay now.

So just a couple 4 incher for the center won't cut it..
