Hi, everyone.

John, VE3POJ volunteers with Tours for Kids. He provides the following
background information.

Tour For Kids is an annual 3-day cycling event to raise money for kids
cancer camps.

This year it is returning to the Peterborough area and runs from August 16
to 18.

Day 1 around Rice Lake, Day 2 around Stoney Lake, and Day 3 around Pigeon
Lake Route maps:

Organizers website: www.tourforkids.com <http://www.tourforkids.com>

Following is how hams can be of assistance.

On the event days, we need Route Monitors and Control Stations.

Control Stations:

- Establish net control, link repeaters,

- Talk-in, assignments, logging

- Monitor weather and road closures

- Handle emergencies

Route Monitors:

- Fixed Location (eg Rest Stop, difficult intersection)

-- Provide an awareness of the event to other users of the road (eg safety
vest,)

-- Provide situation report (eg first rider, medical or mechanical needs)

-- Advise and control cyclists if required

-- Dispense water [provided] as needed

- Mobile

-- Provide situation report (eg medical, mechanical or signage needs)

-- Provide emergency site control if able

-- Provide First Aid if qualified

-- Transport bicycle and/or cyclist in need if able

- VIP shadow/ridealong (eg Medic, Organizer)

-- Provide communications in their vehicles (handheld or plug-in mobile)

Volunteers can sign up at tourforkids.com/ontario/volunteer, and also let me
know via email or my website below.

This is our 16th year, and we do have a small core group of Hams from across
the province that comes each year.

We can support the event with as few or as many volunteers as are available.

I have developed a database and website with all intersections prioritized
for coverage.
