The deadliest job in America, according to this news story released today, is tower climbing (cell towers). Keep in mind that we radio operators do this from time to time.
My own tips for what they are worth, to prevent needless death and dismemberment...
0) Pray
1) Read and learn tower safety ... however possible...continuously
2) Get a mentor...I had some great mentors!
3) Don't gamble...make sure...
4) The things you would make sure a rookie would do...you do it too!
5) Invest in good equipment...make sure you use it the way you are supposed too
6) Ground crew for your buddy...yep, too few helpers result in folks getting in a bind after they are already up there and "committed."
7) Pray
If you own a tower, keep in mind that "free work" might cost you a whole
lot more than hiring a pro...it might cost you a friend!
Do the right thing...
