DIRTY TRICK TIME IN AUSTIN

Senate  Bill 154 been scheduled for hearing Wednesday morning at 7:30 AM. 
That is
not  a typo....tomorrow morning at 7:30. It was a last minute addition to  the
original hearing public notice with the obvious intent to avoid any  publicity
and make it difficult for any opposition to attend the meeting.  

With less then 24-hour real world notice, it will be very difficult for  hams 
to
participate in the hearings. For those of us in West Texas and the  Texas
Panhandle, it will be impossible. We can still take action that may  have an
impact on the members of the committee hearing the proposed bill. We  need to
have as many hams fax or call the committee members TODAY. The  immediate need
is to contact the members of the Senate Transportation &  Homeland Security
Committee. I am attaching a PDF file that lists the  telephone number and fax
number for each Senator on the committee. It is  vital that we contact as 
many of
these Senators as possible and register our  opposition to the language in 
SB154.
As written, SB154 will make it almost  impossible for amateur radio operators 
to
continue to provide back-up  emergency communications for their community. 
Make
sure that you do not come  across as opposing the theme of SB154. We are
specifically asking for an  exemption for amateur radio.
