This came in on my alerts for Ham radio, and I posted it to the RSS feed
for TWIAR (the reader on the right side of the TWIAR home page has the
article 2nd from the top):

They mention ham radio being used but the article only briefly mentioned
they were used to bridge communications and were employed after other
systems went offline.
