!! ATTENTION ALL THIS WEEK IN AMATEUR RADIO SATELLITE AFFILIATES !!
    -------------------------------------------------------------

We just received word at This Week in Amateur Radio headquarters that
The W0KIE Satellite Radio Network will be going off the air, effective
December 31st 2004, due to loss of analog transponder space.

Mike Reynolds, W0KIE, owner of the satellite network, has told us, that
"this is probably the end for W0KIE, it has been a good run." Although a
search for an alternate (analog) transponder and uplinker is underway, it
doesn't look too promising. Mr. Reynolds went on to say, that most of the
programs on W0KIE will maintain their internet streams.

This does not have as great an impact on our operation here at This Week in
Amateur Radio as these satellite moves did earlier in our history. We
estimate that about 85 to 90% of our affiliates now take the service via
the internet at this web site, either by file download, or streaming audio.

SATELLITE AFFILIATES

After reviewing the news about the satellite network, I would like to
recommend that all TWIAR affiliates that take our service via satellite,
plan ahead to be able to acquire the program via the internet each week.

If W0KIE, or another satellite venue for us to distribute the service on
presents itself after December 31st, please be assured that I will pursue
that avenue to reinstate satellite distribution of TWIAR.

If there is any way I can help in this regard, please get in touch. Further,
if anyone reading this knows of a cheap analog sub carrier satellite uplink,
please let us know. We'd love to have our amateur bulletin service on
your air.

Until then, I would like to say a personal "Thank You" to Mike Reynolds,
W0KIE, and all the others you maintained satellite networks for TWIAR to
use. Without you, TWIAR never would have grown into the respected national
amateur radio bulletin service it is now.
