I have called 811 and they really dont seem to understand who does what. I was told they just send the request out to the providers.

The Number you call is 811. I was in the utility construction and you need to do this. If you damage a utility line you are responsible. Damaged lines can be very costly especially if it is a
fiber optic cable. The service is free.

Just dig slowly, and carefully. If you hit something, move over a bit. Worked for me.

Yes, I will invoke The Villages Architectural Review Committee’s (ARC) once I decide on where to put the flag pole. I have spoken to 811 a few times and they are unable to help with any information. They just pass the request on to the utilities. I may just hire someone to install the antenna. Let them worry about all of this stuff

Hi,

Yes, there are properties in The Villages with “utility” lines running through their back yards.
For example, my backyard has several communications lines running through it (East to West).

Yes, you must call the 811 (Sunshine 811) BEFORE you dig to get the utility lines marked.

Finally, you must invoke The Villages Architectural Review Committee’s (ARC) process to be sure your antenna location does not violate (be inside) any public easements. You’d be amazed how many easements are running across our properties.

Here’s how ewe get away with flagpole antennas despite The Villages rules against most antennas/towers. Many moons ago, the US Supreme Court said you have a right to display the flag. Later, the Florida Legislature went further and said you have the right to display it on a flagpole regardless of HOA-like rules. But a careful reading of the Florida statute reveals a height limitation and a prohibition against putting the flagpole inside an easement. This, it’s CRITICAL that you submit an application (available online) to that ARC to insure your flagpole fully complies with that statue.

There used to be great reference articles on the club’s website (TVARC) covering some of these intricacies of installing a flagpole antenna on The Villages. I don’t know if they are still accessible (or even exist anymore).

When digging in Sumter or Lake County, Florida, you must call 811 (Sunshine 811) at least two full business days before starting any excavation project. When I call 811 for my antenna, they identified areas in the front, rear and between houses. The lightening rod installation outfit also called them before installation. I took photos and made measurements for future reference. Joe. AB3CR

I installed my 6BTV inside a PVC flagpole on the corner of the house. I dug up an old bush for the hole. AFIK, the utilities came in from the street in the front yard. My neighbor behind me lives on a cul-de-sac and her utilities come off the street as well.

Hope this helps.
