Hi newbie hams and other club members!

If any of you are at all interested in contesting, whether you're a Tech or
above, and have an HF radio (or can borrow one) that spans 10 meters, then
get yourself ready for the ARRL 10-meter Contest. This is the perfect
first-time contest - lots of activity, contest frequencies available for
Technician licensees, and you can work everyone.

It starts on Friday night, 7P, on December 12, and goes for 48 hours. Ten
meters is typically a daytime band, but might be open for an hour or two
after sundown. Usually need to wait until daylight before you see any
signals popping up. You can operate CW or SSB, or Mixed (but no digital),
and you may work any station you hear.

You'll need an HF radio, a 10M antenna (a simple dipole is only 16 feet long
- and can be set up for the weekend from tree to tree or from the house to a
tree), and a logging program. There are free logging programs designed for
contesting (like N1MM), but you can log manually if you'd like (you'll still
need some way of electronically submitting your log). Conditions have been
spectacular lately, and it should be possible to make many contacts,
stateside or DX, with 100W or less.

So, get your acts together and plunge in and see if this might be an aspect
of the hobby that you'll enjoy!

73, Pete, K2PS
