Mark,
I have an FTM-7250 in the car and another in the house. I got it primarily to replace the 2m only TM-271 in the car which has the same form factor and also the front speaker and wanted the same in the house so I could work through the same menus, programming software and cable. The radio sounds good in both locations and I have got good audio reports on the TX also. It does lack true dual receive capability but so far have not found that to be an issue. The display is clear and the setup menus are intuitive. Being by first Fusion radio I maybe don't know what I'm missing with some of the more advanced radios but have been able to join groups, etc.. I am satisfied with my purchase.

Looking for opinions on the Yaesu FTM-7250DR 2m/44 mobile to use as a home station for our local repeaters.
In California, we used 2m for everything because 440 would barely reach my wellhouse never mind a repeater, with all of our 120 foot UHF-eating fir and spruce trees we had up in the California Gold Country. So I have a Yaesu FT-2900R that made a great rig for hitting our region's nets on repeaters near and far up there. Plus it is a simple rig for Toni and my daughters to use.
I see a lot of Fusion on the local repeaters, so I'm guessing another Yaesu would be a good way to go here.
So my questions:
How does this rig sound for this purpose? Are there other radios I should be considering, from other brands or with different communication protocols?
Would a higher end rig like the FTM-300DR or FTM-400DXR provide enough more functionality in line with what others are using the area to make it worth the bit more of a financial stretch to get one?
Thanks,
Mark, W8BIT

I guess I never noticed this before as I am new to the IC-7300. I have been working much SSB and digital and I now want to get back my CW proficiency. When I am CW keying (plugged into the back and using a Vibroplex key), the ALC indicator follows my keying, going full max when I hold the key down. Is that correct? I never noticed that before. Am I sending out an audio "CW" transmission?
My rig is hooked up for digital (FT4 and FT8) using a USB and CIV connection. It has been working fine. So, I do not change anything and simply go to CW mode on radio to operate CW.
I made several contacts and all seems well.
Am I missing something? I feel like a dummy.
Thanks for the help. Steve AD4K

I just got a call from fellow TVARC member Don Blough, KD8RBW, up in Remus, MI. Those of us who frequent the TVARC Ragchew Net know that Don has had serious problems with one of his feet, to the point where he hasn't been able to get his station back on the air since he returned to MI in February.
A recent fall has put Don into long-term rehab. With all the isolation from COVID-19, Don feels removed from TVARC. So, if you know Don, he would like to hear from you for a chat or to receive an email. His email is:
skidwayrph at gmail.com <mailto:skidwayrph at gmail.com> , and his phone number
is: 989-309-0669.
73,
George K2DM
